Haryana police Thursday arrested five people, including four policemen, in the alleged plan to help Dera Sacha Sauda’s head, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, to leave the courtroom after his conviction in a rape case on 25 August.
Three Haryana Panchkula police commanders were arrested, while Rajasthan police personnel Om Prakash was taken to Hanumangarh. The detained commandos were identified as head guards (HC) Amit Kumar and Rajesh Kumar and Constable Rajesh Kumar.
Haryana’s police probe revealed that in addition to the three police commands, seven other states – in uniform but not in the civil service – were part of the Ram Rahim convoy to court on the day of the verdict.
Police Commissioner Panchkula S Chawla said: “Three Haryana police commanders detained along with other Punjab, Chandigarh and Rajasthan police officers were present at Panchkula on August 25. They were in Panchkula in a uniform of police.
The three Haryana police commanders were summoned, but could not give a satisfactory answer on why they arrived in Panchkula that day. “Second, Dilawar Insaan, was also arrested Thursday in Sonepat as part of the case.
After the CBI’s court said Ram Rahim guilty, at least five of the seven policemen guarding Dera’s head would have tried to free him. They were arrested and charged with sedition. The cops were assigned to Ram Rahim as their Z + security cover, but they became his followers over the years.
